  Battle of Gallipoli Begins (1915)The Battle of Gallipoli took place on the Turkish peninsula of Gallipoli during World War I. It was initiated by the Allies in an attempt to open their supply routes to Russia, establish a new war front, and draw Bulgaria and Greece into the war as allies.
